VICTOR JORY FINED.

Dangerous Speed Alleged.

For having driven a motor car on Parramatta-road, near Lidcombe, at a dangerous speed, Victor Edwin Jory, film actor, was fined £5 at the Traffic Court yesterday.

It was stated in evidence that, at 9.15 a.m. on August 29, the defendant drove his car for a distance of about one mile at 60 miles an hour. The police, it was fetated, had to travel at 75 to overtake him. When spoken to he said he was not travelling at more than

40 miles an hour.

Sergeant Davis (Police Prosecutor) said the traffic was light at the time, and there was no allegation of racing.

Mr. Levine (for the defence) said the de' fendant was a film actor brought here for the picture "Rangle River." At the time of the alleged offence he was going to the location of a scene in the film near Penrith. He had been driving for 16 years, under a Californian licence, and had never had any convictions. The speed at which he was driving was law-ful in the united States, and not considered excessive. Mr. Jory was a tourist, he added, and was not acquainted with regulations here. He did not consider his speed was dangerous.
