NATIONAL .STUDIOS.

ENGLISH TECHNICAL UNIT.

Preparations are well under way for the filming by National Productions, Ltd., of Robert Waldron's novel, "The Flying Doctor." The latest news in this regard announced that Miles Mander will arrive in Sydney on No-vember 11, as head of the Gaumont-Britlsh production unit. Mr. Mander has written several plays and screen stories, including "The First-Born." which he himself directed. He is also an actor. Sydney audiences have seen him in "Loyalties" and other pictures.

Another member of the unit will be Captain John Orton, chief of staff of the Gaumont Britlsh scenario department. Captain Orton, has written most of the screen comedies in which Jack Hulbert has appeared, and he was the adapter of "Brown on Resolution." the British film which has just left the Em-bassy Theatre. The sound expert, Mr. C. Leslie Fry, is already busy at the National Studios. Pagewood. A manager and camera, man will complete the unit. The idea is that the various technicians from England will train Australians in the latest English methods.

"The Flying Doctor" will not be the first film made in the National Studios. Before it enters on production, Mr. Charles Chauvel will use the premises to make some scenes in the latest picture he is preparing for Expeditionary
