OBITUARY.

REV. A. A. YEATES.

The Rev. Ainslie Arthur Yeates, rector of St. John's Church of England, Ashfield, died yes-terday at the age of 51 years. He had been

ill for four years.

Mr. Yeates was born at West Maitland. After attending the East Maitland High School, he went to Sydney University, and in 100O gained h"^ M.A. degree. In the follow-ing year he was appointed curate at Wickham. He was rector at Wallsend from 1003 to 1910, and from 1911 to 1913 was curate at St. James', Sydney. For the next four years he was organising secretary of the IXome Missionary Society In the Diocese of Sydney. From 1917 to 1921 he was rector of St. Stephen's, Wil-loughby.

Later Mr. Yeates proceeded to Melbourne, where he championed the cause of the unem-ployed, and received from the Melbourne Trades Hall Council a letter of thanks for his work. During the bleak winter of 1923 he was instrumental in securing the opening of the drill halls for the unemployed to RIPPJI In. He was rector of St. John's, Woolwich, for two years. A few months after he became rector of St. John's, Ashfield, in 1927, Mr. Yeates suffered a breakdown in health. He Is sur-vived by a widow, three sons, and two daugh-ters. The funeral will take place to-morrow.
