AYERS ROCK.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE HERALD.

Sir,-One of the first men to climb Ayers Rock is now living in Roseville, Mr. E. S. Berry, who was second In command and observer in Gosse's Central Western explora-tion expedition, 1873. He tells me that these mountains were visible 70 miles away, from the back of a camel. He also confirms the difficulty of ascent, which he made mostly on his hands and knees. The view of the desert from the summit of the rock had the appearance of a ploughed field.

I am, etc.,

A. R. ROBINSON. Roseville, July 28.
