TRAVELLING SCHOLAR.

MR. WILLIAM DOBELL.

Mr. William Dobell, who has been awarded the travelling scholarship given every two years by the Society of Artists, has been for five years a student at the Sydney Art School, under the principal, Mr. Julian Ashton, and Mr. Henry Gibbons.

Mr. Dobell, who is 29 years of age, was born at Newcastle, and educated at the Cook's Hill school. He studied architecture in New-castle with the late Mr. W. L. Porter, and in 1923 joined the advertising staff of Wunder-lich, Ltd., Sydney. His scholarship, of £250, is supplemented by £50 voted by the commit-tee of the artists' ball, with an additional £50 from Wunderlich, Ltd.

Mr. Dobell will leave next month for Lon-don, where he will study for a year. The second year will be spent in study on the Continent. ________________
