AUSTRALIAN FILMS.

Large Scale Project.

UNION THEATRES' ENTER

PRISE.

The directors of Australasian Films and Union Theatres, Ltd., announce that owing to the success of their Australian-produced pictures, "Painted Daughters" and "Sun-rise," they have decided to make twelve new films during the next twelve months. They will make use of their now studio at Bondi, known as Union-Master Pictures No. 2, for the purpose. The building has a floor area of 30,000 square feet, and can house three complete companies at the one time. The total cost, including electrical fittings, will

exceed £40.000.

Over £100,000 is to be spent on producing this series of pictures. To fill local require-ments there will be need for about 400,000 feet of negative and positive film; but the direc-tors have not confined their ambitions to the home market, and they propose to issue a great deal more film for distribution through the company's offices in Eng-land, America, and the Continent. If this scheme is carried out in full, it will make Australia the largest manufacturer of motion pictures within the Empire, excepting Bri-

tain herself.

Sir Oswald Stoll has arranged for the Stoll Motion Picture Compnny (of London) to use the Bondi studio for two pictures with Aus-tralian settings. Captain Frank Hurley is now making preparations to film the interior scenes of these plays there. He will cut and assemble the prints before sending the film

to England.
