MR. JOHN MCMASTER.

BRISBANE, Monday.

Known as the grand old man of local go-vernment In Queensland, and until recently father of the Brisbane City Council, Mr. John McMaster died on Friday, aged 94. He was bom In Argylshire, Scotland, and arrived in Queensland in 1885. For many yours he served in the Legislative Assembly and the Legisla-tive Council, while for a very lengthy period he was an alderman of the City Council, dur-ing which time he was Mayor of the city on

different occasions. He Is survived by two sons, Colin and James, and three daughters— Mrs. J. K. Forsyth, wife of General Forsyth,

Melbourne; Mrs. W. Hall, wife of the Rev. W. Hall, Sydney; and Miss J. McMaster.
