BOARD MEETING.

PROPOSED LEGISLATION.

A preliminary meeting; of the board recently appointed by the State Cabinet to deal with mental deficiency in children was held yesterday. Mr. Bruntnell (Minister for Education]

presided, and the other members of the board

present were Mr. S. H. Smith (Director of Education) and Dr. Harvey Sutton (principal medical officer of the Education Department).

It is understood that there is in the bands of the Public Trustee a sum which has accumulated in respect of an old proposal for the establishment of a home for defective children at Randwick. The fund now amounts to £68,000. It appears that under the Act It is necessary that a board should deal with the money. The board now appointed by the Cabinet will probably consider how best to extend the, work among mentally deficient March, utilising the money for the purpose
