PLANS FOR AUSTRALIAN

PRODUCTIONS.

Mr. E. J. Carroll, one of the pioneers of the motion picture industry in this part of the world, and Mr. Reginald L. Baker, who pro-duced "The Lure of the Bush," entered Into a partnership recently In the hope of estab-lishing what they speak of as a national in-dustry for the supply of "made-in-Australla"

films.

The scenic settings for the first production will be selected at Kurrumbede station, Gunredah, by permission of Captain Mackellar and Mr. Eric Mackellar. Gunnabull station, Gunnedah (Mr. Percy Willsallen), and Wairoa, Narrabri (T. B. Macfarlane and Brothers) will be used for other scenes. Employment it is stated, will be found for about 100 per-

sons.

To assist in the enterprise, Mr. Wilfod Lucas, an experienced producer, and Mr. R. V. Doerrer, a camera expert, arrived yesterday by the Ventura. The new arrivals were ac-companied by Miss Bess Meredyth, a scenario writer, and Miss Brownie Vernon, a motion picture actress.

Mr. Lucas, who has been actor in his time, was for over three years associated with Mr. D. W. Griffith, the producer of "The Birth of

a Nation," "Intolerance," and other big films,

"The Romnnce of Tarzan" was one of his own productions. Miss Bess Meredyth has written a large number of stories for the

screen in the United States.

Mr. Lucas said yesterday that the produc-tion of motion pictures was now one of the Heading industries in the United States, and that there was no reason why it should not be one of the most flourishing industries In

Australia.
