CITY SOLICITOR.

DEATH OF MR. DAWSON.

The death occurred at his home at Wah-roonga last evening, after a long illness, of Mr. Percy Sydney Dawson, city solicitor, in

his 52nd year.

The late Mr. Dawson, who was the senior partner of the legal firm of Dawson, Wal-dron, and Glover, of Pitt Street, was born at Cooma, being the eighth son of the late Mr. Robert Dawson, who for a period exceeding 40 years was police magistrate in that dis-trict. Educated at Newington College he passed the junior University examination high in all subjects, being the only candidate of his year who achieved that distinction. He passed his matriculation examination with honours in mathematics In 1883, and entered upon his University course with the intention of becoming a member of the medical pro-fession. This intention was frustrated In 1884, when he was very seriously injured in a coach accident near Queanbeyan while travel-ling to Sydney for his first year examination at the Universlty. In this accident he sus-tained a severe fracture of the skull, and was incapacitated for about two years. Upon ad-vice of the late Dr. Norton Manning, Mr. Daw-son abandoned his intention of proceeding with the medical course and decided to adopt the legal profession. In 1886 he was articled to his late partner, Mr. G. C. K. Waldron, and was admitted as a solicitor in 1891. in the same year he joined Mr. Waldron in the practice of his profession as a solicitor, the firm then being known by the name of Wal-dron and Dawson. Mr. G. C. K. Waldron was appointed to the office of City Solicitor in 1893 - a position which his son, Mr. T. W. K. Waldron has been temporarily filling since Mr. Dawson's illness - and continued to hold it until 1908, when he met his death through an accident. Mr. Dawson thereupon succeed-

ed to the office, the duties of which he carried out to the entire satisfaction of the council

and the citizens.

Mr. Dawson married Miss Neilson, of Wara-tah, and the widow, one son, and three daugh-

ters survive him.

The interrment will take place this after-

noon at Rookwood.
