DEATH OF MRS. DAMPIER.

News has been received here by Mr Al-fred Rolfe, of the death of Mrs Alfred Dam-pier, who was living at the time In Ame-rica with her son Fred, and her daughter Rose Dampier. The deceased actress passed away at the age of 66, from a stroke of paralysis on March 8, at her residence, in Chestnut-street, Reading, Pennsylvania. The late Mrs Dampier was born at Wednesbury, Staffordshire, and was the daughter of Thomas Henry Russell. During her long and active stage career she was always known by her maiden name as Katherine Russell, and old play-goers will readily recall her as the Queen Gertrude to Dnmpier's ' Hamlet," In other Shakespearian parts, and in scores of melodramatic characters, which she played effectively. She was for long years of the greatest service in the theatre as the sup-port and adviser of the distinguished actor-manager Alfred Dampier himself died seven years ago, and the member of his family who inherited most of his talent, Lily Dampier (Mrs Alfred Rolfe), was recently called hence in the prime of life.
