ORANGE WATER SUPPLY.

ORANGE, Friday.

A report on the augmentation of the Orange water supply has been received by the Orange Municipal Council, and will be dealt with at the next meeting of the council. The re-port recommends the construction of a dam on Meadow Creek. The Gosling Creek ad-ditional reservoir would cost £44,500, the Meadow Creek reservoir £43,300; the latter having the advantage of a catchment of 7½ square miles, as against 6.6 square miles, and a capacity for 150,000,000 gallons against 130,000,000 gallons. The report estimates that, with Orange supplied from the present and the proposed Meadow Creek reservoirs, which would receive their supplies from a watershed of 14 square miles, there would be a maximum supply of 280,000,000 gallons, and a minimum supply, based upon tbe experience of the driest years, of 100,000,000 gallons, which would be ample. As a practicable site from which water may be gravitated into Orange has not been discovered on Meadow Creek, it is intended that the water from the proposed reservoir shall be pumped into a service reservoir of 500,000 gallons. The council may rate to 3.67d. It Is suggested that excess water should be charged for at the rate of 1s per 1000 gallons.
