BURKE AND. WILLS.

Mr. Frank Walker, president of the Austra-lian Historical Society, read a paper before the society last night on the finding by Mr. Edwin J. Welch, of John King, survivor of the Burke and Wills expedition.

In his paper Mr. Walker gave a short his-tory of the expedition. He pointed out that while the expedition added little or nothing to the geographical knowledge of Australia, the disaster which befell it was responsible for adding immensely to the knowledge of theinterior of the continent.
