USEFUL SHOWERS.
IN MANY DISTRICTS.
Showers fell yesterday in many districts in the eastern half of this State, and also at a few western localities. The rains continued on Monday over the coastline. At Sydney 44 points were registered for the showers which fell during the 48 hours ended 9 a.m. on Monday. In the metropolis the rain-clouds dis-appeared rapidly before noon. The transformation from wet and gloomy conditions to sunshine tended materially to add to the enjoyment of holiday-makers. Amongst the heaviest rainfalls were Walcha 106 points, Grafton 84, and Armidale 79. Milparinka, in the extreme north-western district, got 26 points. The rains were general over the coastal areas. The highest temperature at Sydney yesterday was 6.0deg a low registration compared with some of the September registrations.

At 3 p.m. on Monday it was showery at Braidwood, Inverell, Nimitybelle, and at a few other places. At Barraba a hailstorm occurred.

BARRABA. A terrific hailstorm was raging on Monday afternoon.
CORAKI. Nice showers fell on Sunday, 35 points being recorded. Appearances point to more.
KEMPSEY. A thunderstorm passed over on Monday, when 25 points of rain fell. This will have the effect of freshening the grass, and giving some water to
householders.
LITHGOW. Twenty points of rain were registered on Sunday and Monday.
MANILLA. Storm showers occurred, partial though very beneficial in the parts visited. *
MACLEAN. Upwards of! an inch of rain has fallen during the last few days. It will greatly benefit the young potatoes and maize. 'Much -more rain is required for general purposes.
TILBA. Nine points of rain fell on Sunday night.
