WELLINGTON, Sunday.

Thirty six hours rain flooded the lower parts of the Dunedin Caledonian ground, where the football match between Australia and New Zealand was to be played The area was almost under water, and the Otago I Union committee wished to postpone the match, but

the Australians were very keen on playing, so they decided that the game should take place on Tshuna Park. Rain continued, and made the ground very

The visitors had the advantage of a strong wind in the first spell New Zealand immediately attacked strongly, then from a free kick at half way Wickham, for Australia made an excellent though unsuccessful kick at goal Good passing and a forward rush again put the visitors on the defensive, and Wrigley scored a try, from which no goal was kicked.

New Zealand, three points to nil

Anlezark, with a fine kick shifted the play into the enemy's 25s and a long kick by Penman gained more ground The ball came out from a scrum to the Australian three-quarters, and McLean scored Wickham

forced

Just before the spell ended Australia very nearly scored, the New Zealand full back forcing just in

teams Wickham was collared dangerously near the Australian line, but he relieved the situation by a good kick The visiting full back and B Smith then got in a lot of work and did it well Good play took place in neutral ground till offside by Oxliidc let every Zealand get away McMinn dribbled to the line and picking up scored Again no goal was kicked

New Zealand, BK points, Australia three points.

Offside play in Clark in nullified the advantage gained by the visitors, and the local men got very aggressive McMinn scored, and again the try was

I unconverted

New Zealand, nine points to three

Soon afterwards good passing enabled Cross to score for New Zealand, and this time Francis kicked a
