PADDINGTON . CORONATION

". PROPOSAL.

I A TOWN HALL CLOCK.'

A public meeting was held last night in the Paddington Town Hall to consider a proposal to raise funds for the purchase

of a clock for the Town Hall town in commemoration of the Corona-tion. The Mayor of Paddington (Alder-man George Walker, J.P.) presided.

Apologies were read from Mr. David Storey, NELLA., Charles Helmrich (oxMayor), J. H. Joyce, O.F.M., and Father, Kennedy.

The Rev. J. Fulton moved the following motion :-," That . this meeting of ratepayers, residents, and others interested in the borough "of' Paddington (a) heartily approved of the idea of celebrat-ing flin Coronation of our Gracious Sovereign by placing a suitable clock in the Town Hall tower at as early date as possible ; (b) the said clock to have the hours indicated on the dial (not as on ordinary clocks) by the letters of the phrase ' Edward the VII.,' or Edwardes 1902 ;' (c) We also desire an effort to be made to have the clock completed and started on New Year's Eve, and that it then he handed over" the care of the borough council to hold and manago in trust for the residents of Pad-dington ; . (d), and that we pledge ourselves to support by contributing and working for the said object." He said that he had received the support of great numbers of leading residents in" this matter. He thought that the time was past when they should ask the Government foreverything they wanted.

Mr. C. W. Oakes, MMLA., seconded the

motion.

Mr. Daly said that a suitable clock might be obtained for about them.

The motion" received support from several speakers, and was carried unanimously

A representative committee was appointed to give effect to the wishes of

the meeting. Mr. C. W. Oakes, M.Li.Ai,*' was elected honorary secretary, and Aldermen George was elected honorary,

treasurer.

The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
