Reuter's correspondent, reports that Mr. Harvey P'. Finlayson, of Adelaide, commanded a detachment of the Cape Mounted Police stationed at. Modder River, detailed to relieve the Capetown Highlanders, who held

Jacobsdal.

Mr. Finlayson, with four men, not waiting for the slow-going men on foot accompanying him, galloped into the town and experienced, in the square which the Highlanders had previously found so disastrous, a fire from four sides. Mr. Finlayson and his men chased a number of fugitive horsemen, and then returning to the town they arrested the Doors who had sniped at them from the houses round the square.

ADELAIDE, Tuesday.

Mr. Harvey Finlayson, referred to, is the only son of Mr. 3 H Finlayson, one of the proprietors of the "South Australian Register" He is about 20 years of age, and went to South Africa from England as a veterinary surgeon. He afterwards joined the Cape Mounted Police. 2
