SYDNEY UNIVERSITY BOAT CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Sydney University Boat Club was held at the Oxford Hotel King-street, last evening there was a large attendance of members

Mr. George Rich presided The acting secretary read the fifth annual report, which, on the motion of Mr C Schrader, seconded by Mr II Cor., was adopted. The report stated that the club was to be congratulated on its continued and increasing prosperity, the chief events of the year had been the interUniversity Eight-oared Races, two of which had been rowed in the current club year -the race for 1896 rowed at Melbourne on June li, and won by a crew consisting of A J M Manson (bow), W T Coyle (2yds" Lloyd (J), B Sawyer (1), I C Wood (6), L H Scott id), I It do B Lopez (7), W A. Conlon (stroke), L vi Stephen (cox ) Melbourne and Sydney took part, and the Sydney representatives succeeded in winning easily lins success they had repeated this year, when, in the race rowed on the Parramatta on April 4, Sydney won by six lengths from Melbourne, and It! from Adelaide The local representative in this race were C H Helsham (bow), R J Millard (2;, M A Conlon (!) I II Scott (4), B Suwyorp), It W. Thomas (0),U Cox (7), I it de B Lopez (stroke), L M Stephen (cox J On, the evening of the race a supper was given to the romacting crews in the great hall of the University, when the Chancellor presided, and his Excellency the Governor and a large and representative gathering of University men were pi ton! the thanks of the club were especially due to Mr AC Millard, who as coat is accompanied both those crows to their training quarters in Melbourne and on the Parramatta, and in the latter race Mr Ionium Pell, of Queensland, had rendered great assistance in coaching the crew, The record for the year in inter-club races was not as good as might be wished the club was represented unsuccessfully in a maiden four-oared race at the St. Ignatius' College regatta, also in A
