RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION IN

WESTERN AUSTRALIA.

[BY TELEGRAPH.]

(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.)

PERTH, WEDNESDAY.

Mr. Violette, representing a syndicate of British capitalists, has submitted proposals to the Govern-ments of Western Australia and South Australia, for tho construction of a railway line from Roebuck Bay to Anglo Pole, near the Peake Station. The

distance is estimated at 1000 miles. The line is to

be constructed on a 5ft. 3in. gauge, similar to the construction of the line between Adelaide and Melbourne, and is to be completed within 12 years of the signing of the contract. Prior to building a permanent line the contractors will run a light line and telegraph the whole distance. All auriferous and other mineral land is to be reserved to the Crown. Crown leases on the syndicate's conces-sions would not be interfered with, but the syndi-cate would become the landlord. In return they ask for a concession of 35,000 acres per mile, the land to be settled along the line, and the syndicate to own and work the line. Mr. Violette, who is a French engineer, states that the proposals have been made to the Governments of both colonies, and replies have been received stating that they will be laid before their respective Parliaments.

ADELAIDE, WEDNESDAY.

Regarding the powers of the syndicate to con-struct a railway from Roebuck Bay to Angle Pole, projected in Western Australia, the Minister of Education states, on behalf of the Government of this colony, that they have no intention of intro-ducing a bill into Parliament regarding the matter.
