SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19, and EVERY EVENING,
First Production in Australia of a drama, in 5 acts, written by Alfred Dampier and C. H. Krieger, founded upon the romantic
but perfectly true story of the life of Margaret Catchpole, as related by the Rev. Richard Cobbold, Rector of Wortham, and
entitled AN ENGLISH LASS.
The management, in placing before the public a drama embody-ing, so far as possible, the extraordinary career of that remarkable woman, MARGARET CATCHPOLE, have been guided to a great extent by that lady's own words contained in the last letter she wrote to her best friend, Mrs. Cobbold, wife of the Rev. Mr. Cobbold, of Ipswich, and dated June 25, 1812 :-" Hundreds will speak of my name when you and I shall be no more. Oh, that it could be represented to the world in its proper light. Should you ever think, as you once hinted In your letter to me, to write my history, or should leave it to others to publish, you have my free permission."
