SEVERE STORM AT GUNDAGAI.

[BY TELEGRAPH.]

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

GUNDAGAI, TUESDAY.

The terrible hail and rain storm which passed over this town yesterday afternoon, when over four inches of rain fell in two hours, does not appear to have extended many miles beyond this district, as far as can be ascertained to-day ; but it was considered heavier between here and Coolac At Five-mile Creek it caused great havoc among the navvies' tents, and there was some damage done to the now railway works, but nothing of a serious nature. The pile-driving apparatus in the creek was washed away; and the monkey, weighing 8owt., was carried nearly 100 yards down the creek. It is said that all of the grass between here and Coolac is literally rooted up by the hailstones, and that the ground iswashed quite bare, Nearly all of the cellars in the principal business street of the town got flooded, and the water flowed through some of the business places a foot deep. In Archer's Family Hotel the water was l8 inches doep. There has been a lot of fencing washed away and a good deal of damage has been

done to the telegraph lines. The weather to-day is fine but

warm.
