A LETTER FROM THE AIR

Following is a copy of a letter re-ceived by Mr. A. Palfrey from Senior Sergeant C. J. Harman, of the Aus-tralian Flying Corps — 6400 feet up. As a novelty I am writing to you from "the air." I am now out with my officer, Captain Oswald Watt. I have just fitted his bus with new planes, and we are on a long spin to test it. We are now over 7000 ft. high, and she so well rigged that she is flying beautifully without control The captain is just steering with his feet, and has let go the stick. Now we are over a town and it is a bit bumpy. We are doing nearly ninety miles an hour. Now we are over a big line of trenches. There is a big camp, also, there is a gale blowing here and we are getting a rough pas-sage, but we are used to that. If we get a buster now you will not get this letter — 800 feet high — but if we get back safe, I hope it reaches you, it will be a novelty. My kindest thou-ghts and best wishes to you all. Sen-ior Sergeant Harman also sent a piece of the plane with an enemy bul-

let hole in it.
