DEATH OF MRS. A. LOCKIE.

Very general regret was expressed throughout Hamilton and the sur-rounding district yesterday when it became known that an old and highly respected resident, Mrs. Lockie, wife of Mr. A. Lockie, Gray-street, had passed away. The deceased lady had not been in the best of health latter-ly, but was still able to get about as usual until last Tuesday, when she contracted a cold, which gradu-ally assumed a more serious aspect, and she passed peacefully away at 1.30 o'clock yesterday morning. The late Mrs. Lockie was a native of Wells, Somersetshire, England, and was born in 1839. She landed at Portland in the year 1858, and was married to Mr. Lockie at that town two years later, the officiating cler-gyman being the Rev. S. Kelso, Pres-byterian minister. Mrs. Lockie and her husband removed to Hamilton in June, 1866, and Mr. Lockie has been in business here ever since. There was a family of five daughters and one son. Two of the former pre deceased their mother ; the eldest, (deceased) was married to . Mr. A. J. Baker, of Two Wells (S.A.). Another daughter is the wife of Mr. P. Brown, of Hamilton. The remain-ing members of the family are Miss I. F. Lockie, Miss I. V. Lockie, and Mr. Roy Lockie ; and to them, and the bereaved husband the sympathy of a wide circle of friends is exten-ded. The late Mrs. Lockie, like so many of the early colonists, was of a strong vigorous type, and was greatly esteemed by her acquaint-ances. Only recently Mr. and Mrs. Lockie celebrated the 50th anniver-sary of their wedding. The funeral is appointed to leave for the Hamil-ton cemetery at three o'clock this

(Saturday) afternoon.
