STOCK AND SHARE REPORTS.

Shares have again had another heavy and, owing to fears for the Strathnaver and Indus, both considerably overdue in London; business days back news came that the Indus had arrived, and shares are slightly better. I rollies sold at 18s, and Uniteds from 10's down to 13s 3d, and have again risen to 11s buyers , sellers, lGs Mutuals sold at 2s 3d. Gold The only shares that appear salable are Fischer and Beni as mid North Williams- ; the former brought 3s, 3s 6d, and 3s 3d ; a dividend of 4s 6d has been declared. North Williams- sold at 6s, and are wanted at that figure Lion Reefs sold for 3d. Copper. Teak Dow is very dull, and remain about 10s ; sales made ircm]0s3a to 6s 9d, Mount Perry inquired for at 7s. Coal: AN alleged remain firm at about £20 ; sales made at £20 and £20 2s 6d ; sellers non £20 5s; buyers, £10 166. AVurnUli have advanced slightly, sales from £14 5s to 14 10s ; Bulli changed hands at £13 10s and £13 7s 6d Gas and Birnie Oil. Theo stocks show a considerable fall. Old gas are offered at £14, and no declared but crover £13 53 ; new gas are offered at £8 15s, and £8 is the highest bid ; Shale and Oil sold at from 7s 6d down to 6s 6d, BclUrsnownt 6s 6d. Debentures, (-some fair parcels have been placed. New South Wales Government, due 1902, sold at £107 and £1000; ditto, due 1801, sold at 166 10s, ditto, interminable, sold at £103; City of Sidney, due 1880, sold at £100 October 21.

H A. CAPE -The share market has been very inactive since my last monthly upon The amount of capital invested has been small, and there is a decided pause in the demand for meatin this. The reports of the half -j early meetings of several companies are now close at hand, and an improvement in business is looked for. Hanks : New South Wales have experienced a fall of 25s richard, last sale reported at £10 5s. The stock has met with but little inquiry. Commercials realized £87, and still offer at this, figure Australian Joint Stocks are weaker, sales at £13 10s, £13 5s, £13, and £13 2s 6d. Citys have also slightly receded, sales at £0 and £9 Is 6d. New Zealanders remain steady at £13 'lite only sale of Queensland Nationals reported has been at £5 13s 6d. The new issue of abar es offered to existing; shareholders has caused a slight depression in the stock No sales of Unions reported. There me but crs in the market at £53, sellers at £54 Only one sale of Mercantiles to note at £0 5s. Steam: Aiu>tiahoianlu\o still further receded in price ; sales from £18 10s to £17 10s, closing with sellers at £17159 Hunter River were quitted at £0 15s Other steam companies' shares have not been dealt in. Insurance Business in this description of security has been very limited. The only vales quoted during the month have been in I'aciflcb at 19s, IPs, and Us Od; Uniteds, 14s, and Sydney Marine at 13s 6d. Sydney Fire Insurance Co. held its half-yearly meeting on the 18th instant, when a satisfactory report was submitted, and the usual dividend of 15 per cent, per annum was declared. Buyers row of the stock at 54s; sellers, 50s ex dividend. Gas shares, although generally a most favourite investments, have not been inquired for of late. No actual sales have taken place during the month ; the old stock is offering at £14, and the new at £9. Coal: Wallsend realised £28 2s 6d and 20. Waratahs have slightly nth anced, business done at £14 7s 6d and £11 10s. Bulli are taken at £13 10s, £13 7s 6d. Copper: Peak Downs time had a dull market, sales at 10s 6d. and 10s. No transactions in Mount Perry. buyers at 6s, sellers at 10s. Miscellaneous : Shale and Oil remain depressed, one small sale to note at 6s 9d, at which they still offer. Sydney Exchange met with a purchaser at £5. Debentures: There has been but little demand this month. The banks, by offering high rates of interest on deposits, enter into successful competition with this description, of any estment. New South Wales Government five per cents, have experienced a fall of 1 per cent. ; recent sales at £180 10s. City Corporation sixes leased part October 21.

Jeames NB The Share market has continued quiet during the past month. The high rate paid for deposits by the banks has told on pi ices, allot which mark more or less of decline. The demand for debentures is small, and nothing but their scarcity keeps their value at the present high level. Banks: Sales of these stocks have been for small parcels only, at more or less decline on last month's quotations. Steam Companies : Australasian Steam shares are lower than they have been for years. A few parcels forced on a very dull nature have led to this result. New Hunter shares have been i sold at 56 15s. Insurance Companies : There is no one

can cry in this market as recent losses give but little hope of

dividends in Marine Companies The Sydney Fire Insurance * Company declared the usual dividend of 15 per cent per annum, on the 18th instant Coal Companies These slimes are in demand, but holders are very firm in price, and but little business is being done Miscellaneous Companies Gas shares are lower The banks offer better interest than this stock pays at present price, and buyers are therefore scarce Shale and Oil shares have declined another Is Non dividend paying stocks are quite out of favour just now Debentures Government debentures command a certain moderate sale at high rates for trust purposes.
