The brig E. K. Bateson, Captain Carter, cleared the Marshall's ' ,' Group July 28th ; Kingsmill Group August 18, and after a dead

heat of 12 days, calling at Ncvvy, Ncvvtoa,, Ouitipor, and Ncuh into, having a strong E.S.E. wind, and Westerly current to contend against ; arrived at Rotumah on the- 3rd September ; filled up cargo, and left again on the 10th for sydney-. for the first > port of the passage carried moderate winds from li. to E.S.E. with fine weather,- passing Hunter's Island on the 15th ; thence squally unsettled weather, with variable winds and sudden strong gales, veering from S.E. to W.N.W.' accompanied with heavy rain, sharp lightning in all directions, and terrific peals of thunder, barometer ranging from 29-05 to 20-70. Since then find fine settled weather, with moderate winds from S.S.E. to E. On the 20th saw two barques,

one a whaler, steering 2s., the other steering S.W. ; had no communication, from that duty had light breezes, v coming from E.S.E. to N.N.K., with sultry weather, till after midnight of the 25th, when it came, on to blow a strong gale from WN.W., with a heavy sea, lasting for upwards of 24 hours, and moderating down as the wind veered round to the southward. On the 28th power Howe Island ; thence to the Heads variable winds and weather till arrival in port on the 5th October. Off the Kingsmill fell in with the following vessels-the ketch Jupiter, and the . Mkooners Argq and Dancing Wave, all of um Auckland, seeking

' native labourers for the Fijis.

The 11 King (t.), from the Manning River, brings up 400 bags ' maize, 100 big-time, 10 bags bacon, 4 bundle tobacco, 10 pigs,

? 30 hides, 12 cases eggs, 8 coops fowls, 3 thus honey, and sundries. -She crossed the Manning bar on Thursday, the 9th, at 7.30 a.m., with the Resolute in ton-, and arrived at the- Grafton Wharf at 10 Maru. same day ; passed the Egmont (C.), off Charlotte Head, at

10 a.m., and Ballina (s.), off Port Stephens, at 1.30 p.m. She had strong ryE. winds throughout the passage. l

The Comet, has again arrived from Elizabeth Reef with a full cargo. She left the reef on the 20th September, in charge of the chief officer, Mr. George Sonnichsen. Experienced strong S. and. SW. winds until making the land, when light north-easter and fine weather was met with. On account of the Scotia not arriving, as she was expected to do according to her charter, Mr, J. C. W. Hinsch was compelled to send the Comet up with the second cargo from the wreck. She will sail again at once, to

take in the balance of the Colonist's cargo. Mr Hinsch arrives by the Comet, leaving Captain Paget, two carpenters, the

caulkers, and riggers by the wreck. If they succeed in getting her off, the captain intends to load her with part of the

wreck Douglas. The weather has been very, line lately at the reef, and favourable for the undertaking. Captain Paget reports that on his last trip to the reef, when within fifty miles of it, he experienced a strong current, setting WNW., and was five days

in making the reef, through light easterly winds, and the strong current against him. The cargo ex Comet will be sold by Messrs.

of Bradley, Newton, and Lamb. iIn the clearance of the barque Constance, from Auckland, the name of Miss White appeals by mistake-it should have been Miss Francis. , , '

, 'office Jlteioiiaf V barque John Williams left Aitutaki on the 24th June i ÉUCieac-lied Penrhyn Island on the 30th, which day was spent there, and the vessel sailed for Mauiiki ; the island was

made on the 4th of July on the 5th she sailed loy R.ikiutngii, and after

three hours bail made the island ; Putaputai was reached "Yet the 11th of July. On this island the first John Williams was lost,

little ship after finishing her vi oil, returned to Mungall, visiting

on her- way the islands Mitiaro, Moukc, Atiu, and reached Me again, on the 31st July. She called at Riuotonira, Aitutaki, and then sailed for Savage Island, which was sighted on the 6th of August. -The missionaries' supplies were landed and the contribu-. lions of the natives taken on board in the shape of cotton, &c.

She vessel then sailed to Tutuila, and reached there on the 13th

August.. The Rev. Powell and Mrs. Wells were taken on

board, and the ship arrived at Apia, Navigator's group, on the ' I
