To Wm. Walker, Esq., and the Gentlemen,
Electors of Gipps Ward, who have signed
the above requisition.
I feel grateful for the honour you have con-ferred upon me by this requisition, and most readily respond to your request.
If successful, I »hall use every exertion, to the best of my judgment, to protect and pro-mote the interest, welfare, and comfort of the citteens of Sydney, and your ward in pat
tioular.
A residence of nearly eighteen years in the ward, has, I trust, made me known to most of you ; but it is my intention to pay my personal respects to every eleotor, previous to the day of
eleotion.
I remain. Gentlemen, ,
Your faithful and humble servant,

COOK WARD.
TO MR. JOHN BAKER SMITHERS.
WE, the undersigned citizens of Cook
Ward, respectfully request you will permit us to put you in nomination at the forthcoming election as a City Councillor to represent this ward. Your experience as a colonist, and a resident in the ward, must ne-cessarily give you a knowledge of its localities, which it is bo desirable that a City Councillor should posees*, and we feel confident that our interest« will be faithfully guarded, and pledge ourselves to use our best exertions to secure your election.
THOMAS COWLISHAW, and upwards of eighty names signed to the re-
quisition.
William-street, Woolloomooloo Gentlemen,-In acknowledging the respect which you have thuB declared towards me, by requesting me to become a candidate for the office of Councillor of your ward, I cannot but feel a pleasure in acceding to your wishes. Should you by your vote» place me in the Council as your representative, I shall moat diligently ptrsevere, to the best of my abilities, to promote such measures as have for their object the benefit of your ward and the citizens
generally.
I am decidedly of an opinion that water should be supplied to the citizens at the lowest possible rate. I shall do all in my power to effect that desirable object.
An extravagant expenditure of the citizen's money will find in me a rigid opponent.
A general lighting rate I consider objection-able, as the inhabitants of the remoter parts of the city (and your ward especially) do not participate in its advantages, therefore should not be compelled to contribute to that from which they deriva no benefit.
Having property in your ward, and residing among you, it is impossible for me not to tak« a deep interest in your local affairs, and be as-sured that nothing shall be wanting on my part to prove myself worthy of your confi-
dence.
I have the honour to be,
Gentlemen,
Your obedient and faithful servant,
JOHN BAKER SMITHERS. To Thomas Cowlishaw, Esq., and th« other gentlemen who have signed the above requisi-tion. 4367
GRATUITOUS EXHIBITION.
DENTAL CABINET.
MR. J. EMANUEL, Surgeon Dentist,
invites his Patients, Medical Gentle-men, and the public in general, to inspect an Automaton case that he has reoeived from
Paris, including the most beautiful specimens
of the Dental Art. It is so contrived that complete sets of teeth of various bites are seen in motion, showing their acting power when fixed in the mouth, and the invaluable benefit derived by the use of artificial teeth, both for mastication and articulation, when constructed on the above scientific principles. Mr. Emanuel can confidently assert that in this city there has never been seen of this ingenious science such exquisite and finished workmanship, embracing all the latest Pari-sian improvements of dental contrivance; many persons complainingof the inconvenience of wearing large plates of gold in the mouth, this principle will completely set aside the prejudice frequently felt by many ladies and gentlemen requiring artificial teeth. On view daily at Mr. E.'s residence, where he maybe consulted in all cases appertaining to his pro-fession. At home from 9 a.m. till 6 p.h.

CURE OF FISTULOUS .SORES
AND PLEURISY.
Extract of a letter from Mr. Robert Calvert,
Chemist, Stokesley, dated September 3,1847. To Professor Holloway.
Sir,-Mr. Thompson, National Schoolmaster of this town, desires me to send you the par-ticulars of his son, who had been bad for throf years and a half, and has received the greater benefit by the use of your pille and ointment. He is of a scrofulous constitution : a pleurisy had left a large collection of matter in the chest, this eventually formed a passage through the wales of the chest, and ended in three fistulous sores which discharged large quantitiep ofpuB, when he was induced to try your pill? and ointment ; at this date he wbb apparently in a dying condition ; the stomach rejected everything it took. Your pills and ointment had the effect of completely curing boin the cough and Btomnch affections, li'«t strength and flesh are also restored, his appetite keen, and digestion good. There is every prospect that a little further continuance of your medicines
will finish the cure.
