MR. RIDER HAGGARD.

'..Mr. Rider Haggard had a strange adventure while collecting materials for his new story, 'The Brethren : A Romance of the Crusades,' which is running in 'Cassell's Magazine.' At Jerusalem he was stoned for

accidentally treading on a Mohammedan tomb — curiously recalling the caution of Felix Fabri, who told pilgrims 500 years ago to beware of stepping over the sepulchres of the Saracens, because they are greatly vexed when they see this done, and pelt with stones anyone who walks over them, as they believe that passing over them torments and disturbs the dead.
