INDIAN LABOUR.—A preliminary meeting was held at the Royal Exchange on Saturday, R. Scott, Esq., of Glendon, in the chair, for the purpose of considering what steps should be taken to induce Her Majesty's ministers to sanction the introduction of Indian labour-ers into this colony. After the subject had been pretty fully discussed, it was resolved,

that it is advisable to form an Association for

promoting the immigration of Indian labour-ers, and that lists be opened for the purpose of obtaining the names of persons willing to join such an Association, and that as soon as one hundred names have been obtained, a meeting be called to consider the best means

of carrying out the proposed object. Mr. R. Scott, Mr. John McKay, and Mr. E. J. Blax-

land, were appointed a provisional committee to make the necessary arrangements. The various resolutions were moved by Mr. Don-nison, Mr. Mole, Mr. Windeyer, Mr. E. Forbes, Mr. E. J. Blaxland, and Mr. Sillitoe. The places at which lists are to be found will be advertised by the provisional committee as soon as they are prepared.

THE ABORIGINES.—The subject of the Rights of the Aborigines, now under discussion by the Debating Society, has excited no little interest, and has already brought forward several of our most respectable professional gentlemen to speak in the Debate. A number more have promised to speak this evening and the following Monday.

SALE OF PROPERTY.—Mr. Stubbs, this day, brings to the hammer a very valuable pro-perty, at Wollongong, comprising seven lots, and situated in the Keera and Crown streets:

Also a further division of the Mary-le-bone

estate, in twenty allotments, particularly

suited to purchasers of small capital. Both the properties will be sold at a remarkable low figure, so that the buyers may well re-imburse themselves on their outlay.

THEATRE.—The announcement that the performances at the Theatre this evening are for the benefit of Mr. Knowles is sure to draw a full house, as there is no performer who has for a series of years more strenuously exerted himself for the amusement of the public than he has done, nor one whose acting has been more fully appreciated by the public. His M. Jacques is decidedly the most perfect piece of acting ever seen in

this colony.

WOOLLOOMOOLLO GAOL.—It appears from a return, dated Colonial Architect's Office, August 9th, that the following men are em-ployed in Woolloomoolo Goal; seventy-seven men from Norfolk Island and an ironed gang, of thirty men are employed preparing and cutting stone in the quarry, seventy-nine men setting and cutting stone in the yard, and eleven in forming a cesspool.
