Mrs. Mabel Forrest

Mrs. Mabel Forrest, poetess .and authoress, died in Brisbane yesterday. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mills, who owned grazing properties on the Darling Downs and In South-western Queensland. She was bom near Yandilla (Q.). The first of her novels to be pub-lished in London, in 1924, was "The Wild Moth," the story of which was subse-quently screened as "The Moth of Moonbi." Her other novels included "Gaming Gods," "Hibiscus Heart," and "The Scythe of Fate." Her books of verse Included "Alpha Centauri," "The Rose of Forgiveness," "Streets and Gardens," and "The Green Harper." Several of her short stories were translated Into Dutch. She was a member of the Society of Authors (London), the Fellowship of Aus-tralian Writers, and the Lyceum Club (London), and was a life member of the Queensland Press Institute.

Mrs. Maude d'Eslrerc Ardlio, widow of Hie late Mr. William Ardlie, who was a widely known member of the legal pro-fession in Victoria, died at Warrnombool on Sunday. Mr. Ardlie worked In the first solicitor's office in Warrnambool, and practised his profession until Ave weeks before his death in 1033. Mrs. Ardlie had actively identified herself with church and charitable organisations in Warrnambool.

The funeral of Mr. Leo Donnolly, a former licensee of the Parade Hotel, East Melbourne, and the Australian Hotel, Spencer street, was attended by a large number of friends at the Melbourne Ceme-tery yesterday afternoon. The Rev. Father O'Rourke officiated at the graveside, and Hie pallbearers were Messrs. S. Wilson and J. Cohen (of Pavey, Wilson, and Cohen), R. Rowe (Broken Hill Pty.), T. Mlllea (Carlton Brewery), R. and J. Don-nelly, and W. and J. Lennard. Tile fune-ral arrangements were carried out by Alfred Allison. Clifton Hill.
