1927 big chance in ARIA awards .

JOHN Farnham, Crowded House and

1927 look set to sweep the 1988 Australian Record Industry Awards (ARIAs) with the announcement that each of the three have received nine nominations.

New band 1927 are among those in contention for the Best Australian Debut Album award for their album ... ish, best debut single, best album, best single, plus both the highest selling Australian single and album awards.

John Farnham's Age of Reason and Crowded House's Temple of Low Men are in for a fistful of awards including Best Australian Contemporary Record.

On the new talent stakes, Johnny Deisel and the Injectors, Go 101, The Spliffs, The State and Schnell Fenster are among those nominated for awards for newcomers to the record industry.

Despite no airplay on commercial FM radios, Kylie Minogue and her debut

album Kylie has been chosen by ARIA's eclectic band of 150 judges for various awards including the coveted Outstanding Achievement Award.

In the comedy corner, The Comedy Company will be vying for Best Australian Comedy Record against their own Con The Fruitier and Kylie Mole, plus Austen Tayshus and Club Veg.

The Comedy company will also be up against 1927, Crowded House, John Farnham and Kylie Minogue for the Highest Selling Australian Album.

The Black Sorrows, with Hold on to Me, nominated for the Best Australian Album, are pitted against Crowded House, The Go Betweens, INXS and Midnight Oil for the Best Australian Group.

More than 1000 people from Australia's record industry will attend the 1988 ARIA awards, at Darling Harbour's Convention Centre, on March 6.
