THE LATE MR. W. DUNN.

By the death of Mr. William Dunn at Box Hill on July 12 another of the old pioneers of this district has been removed. The deceased gentle-man who had reached the venerable age of 81 years, was born at Taun-ton, in Somersetshire. and came out to Victoria in the ship Raven's

where he resided for 44 years, going to Box Hill fourteen years ago. Af-ter that he was a frequent visitor

to this town. In partnership with the late Mr. Holden. Mr. Dunn con-ducted business here as a contractor, and was engaged in the erection of a number of big structures. Am-ongst the principal of these was the Victoria and Colonial banks and the two-storied buildings now occupied by Drs. Hayes and Scott. He also erected the first, brick house, in Gray-street for the late Mr. S. Radley,

the bricks for which were made by

Mr. H. Cornish, sen. Mr, Dunn was a devout adherent of the Methodist church and held different offices in connection with the work of that bo-dy. He was only taken ill about a fortnight before his death, having; been seized with a fit of apoplexy while attending divine service. Mr.

Dunn had been married twice, and leaves a widow, two sons and two daughters—Messrs. John and William Dunn, of Hamilton. Mrs. Bostock (Box Hill) and Mrs. Ethel Dunn (New South Wales). The remains were interred in the Box Hill ceme-tery. An in memoriam service was held in the Box Hill Methodist chur-

ch on the following Sunday evening, when the Rev. R. W. Thompson oc-cupied the pulpit. His subject was the pilgrimage of life, the text cho-sen being Psalm 119, 54th verse. The preacher made reference to the con-sistently godly life led by the deceas-ed gentleman, and in support he quo-ted the testimonies of the various Methodist ministers where Mr. Dunn had from time to time resided. The

preacher also praised Mr. Dunn's ge-

neral cheerfulness.
