SMEATON

BELGIAN FUND CONCERT.

On Saturday, 10th April, a grand concert was given by local talent, the proceeds being devoted to the Belgian Relief Fund. The first part of the programme was provided by the children, and consisted of songs, recitations, games, cornet solos, and pianoforte duets, the following chil-dren taking part:-Master Frank Wright, cornet solo; Hector and Dollie Archibald, piano duet; Joseph Dooley, Ellis Walton, Keith Boyes, Percy Riddiford, Jack Cornish, Henry Taylor, Jessie Mizzeni, Joyce Redman, Duicie Grieve, Nellie Boyes, Grace Taylor, May Pickering, and Gwennie Taylor, games and song; Willie Pickering and Nellie Boyes, Ada McCarthy and Bruce Forsyth, recitations ; Fred Redman, Hector Archibald, Leo Branagan, and Eileen Bourke, solos. On the completion of this part of the programme, a sale of gifts took place, Mr D. Walton weildingthe hammer, and a lively twenty minutes were passed in selling pigs, sheep, poultry, vegetables, flags, etc., the gifts of Messrs E. Mizzeni, H. Evans, R.

Robinson, D. McKenzie, Frank Pickering, James Archibald, D. Anderson, D. Walton, R. Whattnore, Alf. Redman, Masters Robbie Archibald, George Torney, Fred Redman, Willie Taylor, Jack Corcoran, and the Misses Clarice Taylor, Evelyn Hassel, Eileen Bourkc, and Dollie Archibald. A fine piece of Indian needlework, the gift of Mrs I. Boadle, realised £5 7s. At the conclusion of the sale, the adults' portion of the programme was rendered. The following ladies and gentlemen took part:-Miss Beatrice McCrum sang "Angus McDonald," and with Mr J. McCrum the duet, " Night of Stars"; Miss Laura Wright sang " Come, sing to me" and " Somewhere a voice is calling"; Mr J. McCrum, who was in good voice, sang ' Only one of the toys"; Mr Thomas Sewell delighted the audience with ' Already " and " A little grey house in the west"; and Mr H. S. Kiifoyle pang the Broadmeadows' favorite, " Australia will be there." Already the committee has in hand a sum of about sixty.pounds. The fund will be kept open for a few days, and the committee will be glad to receive

further donations.
