NEWS IN BRIEF

Changes In Fiji

Telling of many great changes which had taken place In Fiji, the Rev. A. Wesley Amos, who accompanied the party of Aus-tralians that visited Fiji recently to cele-brate the centenary of Methodism in the islands, said in an address at Wesley Church yesterday that the old communal system, which had many excellent features, was giving place to individualism. It was hoped that the pendulum would not swing too far. Much was being accomplished by a "back to the land" movement. A sub-stantial area of rich pastoral land, which had been held for many years by European interests, had been returned to the natives by the Methodist Church in the form of a modern agricultural college, under the management of a graduate of Hawkesbury College (N.S.W.).
