HAMILTON AREA LOSS £270,000

HAMILTON. Tues: Latest survey of the fire damage in Hamilton and district shows properties lost to be: Hamilton: 50 homes, also the rail-way coal shed, Patterson's sawmills and the gun club pavilion. Tarring-ton, 26 houses; and Dunkeld 36 houses, a total of 112 houses, also countless woolsheds. Tens of thou-sands of stock and many hundreds of miles of fencing were also des-troyed.

Assessments tentatively made by Hamilton town and Dundas shire councils give the town damage as £ 50,000 and shire losses at £ 220,000. More than 40 people were treated at Hamilton Hospital.
