OBITUARY

MR GEORGE T. BRUCE

The death occurred at his home in Burwood rd, Hawthorn East, on Thursday night of Mr George T. Bruce, 76. He was bom at Majorca, near Talbot, and after leaving school joined the Victorian Railways. He occupied the position of station master at Ringwood, Swan Hill, Ben-

digo, Benalla, and Spencer st. At

the time of his death he was secre-

tary of the Talbot Old Boys and Girls' Association, and was interested in Masonic affairs. The funeral will be at Box Hill Cemetery at 10.30am today. Arrangements are being made by H. J. R. Lewis, Johnston st, Fitzroy.

MR GEORGE BRYANT

The veteran Australian actor, Mr George Bryant, whose death occurred yesterday at his home in South Yarra, was well known for many years on the stage, both in Australia and America. Mr Bryant, who was 78, commenced his career in Aus-tralia at the age of 20, with Brough and Boucicault. He went to America in 1890, and for several years played under the management of David and Charles Frohman, and David Bel asco in New York. He was also as-sociated during that time with E. H. Southern, Kyrle Bellew, and Mrs Brown Potter. He was later brought back to Australia by J. C. William-son to produce and act in "The Squaw Man" and "The Virginian." after which he was associated with Muriel Starr. Mr Bryant's most notable role was Abraham Lincoln with the Gregan McMahon Co.

He Is survived by a widow, a son, Mr Jack Bryant, and a daughter,

Mrs B. Mayor. The funeral will leave Matthews's chapel, Toorak rd, at 10.30 today for Melbourne Ceme-tery.
