Mr. E. Kyffin Thomas

Mr Evan Kyffin Thomas, at one time senior partner and managing proprietor of the "Register" and "Observer," Adelaide, and chairman of directors of Register Newspapers Ltd., died in Adelaide on Saturday morning at the age of 69 years. Mr. Thomas was the son of William Kyffin Thomas, a former proprietor of the "Register" and associated papers, and a grandson of Robert Thomas, the founder. He joined the literary staff of the "Regís- ter" in 1885, and became a proprietor in 1899. He was chairman of the Adelaide committee of the Australian section of the Empire Press Union at the Empire press conference in 1925, deputy chairman of the Australian section of the Empire Press Union in 1929-30, and deputy chair-man of the Australian delegation to the Empire Press Conference in London in

1930. He leaves a widow, two sons and a daughter.

Mr James G Macdonald who died on Saturday at his sons residence, Saturn street, Caulfield, arrived in Vlctoria when he was aged 7 years. He waa a colonist of 77 years. With his parents he spent his boyhood at Ballarat. Then he became a school teacher, his first appointment being at Bullarook In 1877 he was trans-ferred to South Clunes where he took a leading part in Masonic, cricket, tennis, and social interests. Later Mr Macdonald taught in schools at Coleraine, Benalla, East Brighton and Fitzroy. He was an officer of the Windsor Lodge of Free-

masons and recently he helped in the formation of a new lodge at Dromana. For the last 35 years he had lived in
