Mr. S. McCulloch

Many friends and acquaintances were grieved to learn of the death, following a shooting accident, of Mr. Samuel McCulloch, who before his retirement several years ago was a well known bar-

rister and solicitor. Mr. McCulloch, who had been living at Woodend for some time, was injured while on a shooting expedition at Woodend on Saturday. A son of the late Mr. William McCulloch, who was himself a leading figure in the public life of Melbourne, the late Mr. Samuel McCulloch was born in Melbourne 71 years ago, and was educated at Scotch College and later at the Melbourne Uni-versity. During his earlier years he was a leading oarsman, being a member of successful crews of his school and the University. He was a member of the Mel-bourne club. The late Mr. McCulloch was twice married, his first wife being the daughter of the late Mr. John Wagner, while his second wife, Miss Clyde, was an American by birth. Two married daughters of the first marriage and two sons of the second marriage survive.

At the funeral, which took place at the Melbourne General Cemetery yesterday, Messrs William and Clyde (sons) and William and Colin (brothers) were the chief mourners. The pallbearers were Messrs Herbert Brookes, Walter Bayles, Leslie Smith, C. Lorimer, R. Hewitt, H. Clapp, F. Brett and Rupert Greene. The Rev. Selwyn Evans, of the Australian Church, conducted a service at the grave-

side. The funeral arrangements were carried out by A. A. Sleight Pty. Ltd.
