GREATER IPSWICH AREA BY MAY BRISBANE, Jan. 27.-The Minister for Local Government (Mr. W. Power) announced to-day that the Governor-inCouncil had given efect to the proposal for the redistribution of local government in the Ipswich area.

The alterations would be effective from the date of the next triennial elections in May, said Mr. Power. The effect of the decision is to operate three where there are now five areas by extending the boundaries of the City of Ipswich by joining in the city part of the Shire of Moreton; o)y making one shire surrounding Ipswich, comprising the Shire of Rosewood, the balance of the Shire of Moreton, and part of the Shire of Normanby; and by joining in the Shire of Boonah the Southern end of the Shire of Normanby. "The extension of the City of Ipswich area," said.Mr. Power, 'embraces the townships beween the present boundaries of the cities of Brisbane and Ipswich, together with certain l?ds on the western side of ipswich, including the Amberly and Wulkuraka areas." "Development in the for-mer area has been so great in recent years that the townships eoeaarned are now irtually snburbs of Ipaweh. "Amalgamation of the Moretn, Normanby, and Rosewood reas would provide one comact area with the one .comunity of interest and the inancal means at its disposal o function effectively. The rnsfer of portion of the Nornby area to the Boonah hire is a boundary adjustment which has been sought by the sidents of the area for some e past, and whose comunity of interest lies with the town of Boonah." added Mr. Plower.
