TUESDAY EVENING.

At the half early meeting of the Castlemaine Woollen Company last evening the directors in their report regretted that, owing to the existing depression in trade, the financial result of the last six months was not so favourable as they desired I be Tac tones and Shops Act passed by the last Pur hament struck a serious blow at the industry A hope was expressed that the united action of the various woollen companies in the colony in an endeavour to obtain an increase of the duties on their manufactures would I prove successful In reply to a shareholder the chairman explained that the Factories Act affected the industry, inasmuch as the hours of labour were shortened and more hands had to be employed The financial statement showed that there had been a profit of 84 18s 6d. for the six months
