TRANSFER OF PLAYERS

VFL Decision

The permits committee and match arrangements committee of the VFL last night elected Mr P. O'Brien (Richmond) chairman and Mr B. Hogg (Melbourne) deputy chairman for the 1943 season.

Mr Leslie Mcintyre, late secretary of the Sub-district League, was appointed to assist the League secretary in an honorary capacity.

The position of players in the lowest team, which will then drop out of the competition after the 11th round, was discussed.

Mr B. Hogg (Melbourne) thought that a dangerous situation might arise if players were allowed to transfer to other clubs after their own club had been eliminated.

Mr S. Hull (Footscray) said if players were allowed to transfer to other clubs for the balance of the' season they would lose interest in

their own club.

The committee agreed that players of the club eliminated be not allowed to transfer to other League clubs during the remainder of the season.

The position of Geelong club players was also discussed, and it was agreed that there should be no re-striction on the transfer of 1941 season Geelong senior players to other League clubs during 1943

season.

The umpire appointment board also met last night and appointed Mr George Ravenhall chairman for the

season.

SOUTH'S FIRST MATCH

In the second run of the season last night, South Melbourne had an excellent muster of old and prospective new players. Brian Kelly, having his first run, showed good form. Allsop, who signed up last year but was unable to play, attended and is expected to be a useful wingman. Mullinger had his first run, and impressed. Two RAAF players, Stan Mcintyre and Bill Rowe, showed promise, and Eric Goullett, brother of a former South star, looks like developing into a fine centre man. On Saturday all players are expected to be at Ross Gregory Park, behind St Kilda cricket-ground, for a practice match, in which all available men will be

tried.

PATRIOTIC FOOTBALL MATCH

St Kilda Football Club yesterday received an acceptance of its invita-tion for a team from Flinders Naval Base to play a patriotic match on May 9 at Toorak Park. The St Kilda club's share of the proceeds will be donated to the Mayor of St Kilda's

patriotic fund. A
