WA. DROUGHT

BROKEN

Hail Ruins Crops

PERTH, Tuesday.-After probably the worst drought in the State's history, heavy rain fell throughout the farming areas

yesterday and throughout last night. It was accompanied in places by disastrous

hail and wind.

Areas which had suffered drought most received between one and two inches of rain; the heaviest fall reported was 463 points at Corrigin. The Avon Valley and the eastern and north-eastern wheat belt, and the Great Southern, where the water supply has been causing great anxiety, averaged about 150 points.

A heavy hail storm in the Mingenew district (190 miles north of Perth) caused much damage to crops, one farmer alone losing nearly 20,000 bushels. At Morowa large hailstones did great damage, and 30 miles eastward, all standing crops were ruined. Hailstones in some places were a foot to 18 inches deep. Farm buildings, trucks, cars, and windmills were also

damaged.
