BASS - Mr. L. H. Combridge, returned sol-dier of Glen Alvie has died aged 40 years. He is survived by a widow and finve children. - Many

farmers are out of water on account of the mild weather. There has been no wind to drive the

mills.

BEULAH - Farmers are being favoured with excellent weather for the sowing of wheat, and are working day and night in an endeavour to complete sowing before a further break in the

weather.

CLUNES - The Clunes Borough, and Ballarat, Creswick and Talbot shires, at a conference decided to ask the Country Roads Board for a grant toward sealing the newly constructed Clunes-Creswick road, portions of which are in the shires mentioned. The estimated cost of sealing the road is £3,450.

COBRAM - Fire caused damage to the board-ing house occupied by Mrs. Matheson in Main Street, early on Friday morning. Mrs. Mathe- son awakened in time to save the building.

CORINELLA - Mr. W. Trew has died at the age of 68 years.

CORRYONG - Mr. R. A. MacFarlane of the relief staff, Ballarat, has been appointed postal clerk at Corryong.

CRANBOURNE - An entertainment organised by the Cranbourne Football Club held in the shire hall included competitive items by school children. Awards were :- Pianoforte Selections -

CRESWICK - Frederick Pollard of North Creswick, while at work for the Counry Roads

Board, jumped off a truck and landing on the blade of a shovel, the handle flew up and inflicted a severe injury in the groin.

CRESSY - Sister McKenzie, who has had

charge of the Cressy and District Bush Nursing Centre, has transferred to the Lismore Bush Nursing Hospital. Her place at Cressy has been taken by Sister Kelly.

DROUIN - The annual ball of the Catholic Church was attended by more than 300 people

DUNOLLY - Charity races resulted in £60 for the Dunolly Hospital.

FERNTREE GULLY - At the Ferntree Gully Court Richard Henry Boldt, carrier, of Silvan

road, Monbulk, was fined £25, in default three months imprisonment, for having sold liquor

without a licence.

MURTOA - Before she left for Melbourne Mr. G. N. Foster was entertained and pre-

sented with a gold wrist watch from the Catholic Women's Social Guild - On the occa-

sion of his retirement from the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission. Mr. G. D.

Hastie, was was employed at the Murtoa office was presented with a wallet of notes from officers of the Wimmera area of the commis-

sion.

MYRTLEFORD - An appeal for a new Metho- dist Church has been launched. Already £300 has been promised. - Miss Mary McFadyen, who has retired asa telephonist at the post-office, was presented with gifts by the postal staff.

ORBOST - Mr. and Mrs. Haig were bidden farewell by members of the Orbost Presbyterian Church before tey left for Stawell. - Mrs. Coad was also bidden farewell before she left for Moe. - The Transport Regulationo Board, which sat at Orbost, granted D. R. Williams a licence to carry general goods between Orbost and the border, and T. H. Stephenson a licence to operate a comercial passenger vehicle between Noorimbee and Orbost. The board reserved its decision concerning J. Ryan's application for a licence for a goods vehicle between Orbost and

the New South Wales border, and J. de Plazza's application for a licence for a vehicle to carry hewn timber to Orbost from places between Cann River and the border and railway stations

in Briawolong district.
