Canberra City draws

after bad errors

PHILIPS SOCCER LEAGUE

SYDNEY: Sydney Olympic can thank two bad defensive errors by Canberra. City for the point it salvaged in its 2 - a 11 draw at W c n t w o r t h Park yesterday in the Philips National Soccer League.

Olympic scored from a bad clcarance and a goalmouth muddle while Canberra equalised each time from well-controlled passing movements.

In other games yeasterday a goal two minutes from full time gave Sydney's Western Suburbs a bruising 2-1 win over Adelaide City and a two-points lead in the league.

Adelaide's biggestrecorded crowd of 11,300 for a club game saw Wests' rugged striker Graham Norris score both goals for his team from defensive blunders in each half.

Another Sydney club, Marconi, moved into clear second place on eight points after its 3-0 win over South Melbourne, and the two South Australian teams, West Adelaide and Adelaide City, share third spot, another point away.

Four second-half goals swept Fitzroy to a 4-1 win over a luckless Brisbane Lions at Fitzroy Oval, in Melbourne, after a scoreless first half.

Fitzroy began its scoring eight minutes into the second half with Socceroos Jim Tansey,

Ernie Campbell and Branko Buljevic all scoring.

Brisbane Lions consolation goal was its first for the season after a total of 444 minutes football.

Its sister team, Brisbane

City, scored its first home win with a 3-1 victory over Mooroolbark at Perry

Park.

St George survived sustained pressure from Eastern Suburbs to earn a one-all draw at the Sydney Sportsground.

Both goals resulted from free kicks in a match where the strikers were sadly out of touch.

Marconi, with a back-to-from Ray Richards, was impressive in its 3-0 win over South Melbourne, which had no answer to the counter-attacking style of the Sydney team.

Socccroo striker John Kosmina was on target again in Melbourne when he scored the only goal to give West Adelaide its third away win of the

season.
