GOOD VAUDEVILLE

-*

New Show at Tivoli

Bright he presentation, strong In novelty, and adequately tuneful, Frank Nell's new revue, The Big Show of 1936," at the Tis oil Theatre sets a High standard It is a new style of show within the limits of traditional vaudeville There is some smart dancing by a bevy of clever girls much uproarious comedy from Angus Watson, and a first-rate contribution by Maxine Lewis, who knows how to sing into a micro-phone should be very popular as the

season advances

Brilliant work is done by the Alexander and Santos company, which comprises two men and a woman The "act" is really one of the knock-about variety, with the performers masquerading as classical dancers Their burlesque is along adagio lines Athletic grace and gymnastic skill are shown by the Erikson Brothers, whose feats are both thrilling and entertaining, and the aerial work of the Windsor Troupe is something to wonder at Precision and timing in this "turn ' make it very attic at-the Castel and Barker in a neat balanc-ing display, and the Seven Martincttls with their Risley act, are other athletic interludes of high standard The Armour Boys provide a burlesque boxing turn which is most amusing, and Eric Barker gives a clever skit on test cricket With good support in sketches and song scenes from Chic Arnold, Isobelle Mahon, Al. Mack, Doreen May. and Margaret Grimshaw, the supporting items are very carcontaining

The producer, Mr Wallace B Parnell, can safely claim to have captured the nonchalance the caprice, and the happy irre-solution of the old vaudeville mood with this show, and his bright flair for colour has found outlet in Blue Danube Blues," Seaside or Country?" and 'Clowns in Clover," which are very good ensembles

CHARITY CONCERT AT

PRAHRAN

The Prahran City Hall was crowded last night when Madame Florence Austral and Mr. John Amadio appeared as celebrity artists at a concert organised by the Prahran branch of the Alfred Hospital auxiliary. Both artists were in admirable form, and in their stated items and in their recall numbers displayed an impressive combination of musicianship and vir-mosity.

Many well-known singers and instrumentalists gave efficient service. Mr. Cecil Parkes showed characteristic dexterity in a sarasate "Tarantelle," and was fortunate in having Miss May Broderick as his associate pianist. Mr. Herbert Browne pleased the audience by his experienced handling of Lehar's "Oh Maiden, My

Maiden"; Miss Freda Northcote contributed several vocal items with agree-able animation, and Miss Louie Dunn's recitations proved Immediately successful.
