PERKINS CASE

ATTEMPTED COERCION

ALLEGED

Reregistration Granted

Allegations that attempts had been made to influence the voting on the Per-

kins case and to coerce members were made by Mr. C Young (Oakleigh) at a meeting of the Association permit and umpire committee last night

J. T. Perkins (Northcote) who is a police constable has played for Northcote as a ruckman since 1925 While he was at Northcote he was disqualified on three occasions. At the beginning of this sea-son the Association permit and umpire committee debarred him fiom playing senior football Perkins then played two games with the Northcote seconds, but a complaint was made to the controlling body of the Association seconds, which re-fused to allow him to play with the North-cote seconds until he was re-registered

with the Association.

Last night Mr. H. Williams on behalf of the Northcote club, moved that Perkins be re-registered. The motion, which was seconded by Mr. J. Leith (Coburg) was agreed to by five votes to four.

The chairman of the committee (Mr. S. Power) told the secretary of the North-cote club (Mr. Ivo Gibson) that Perkins had been re-registered but he added that it was the opinion of the committee that if ever Perkins appeared before the tribu-nal again on a charge and was convicted he would be disqualified for life.

S Lawlor formerly of Preston seconds, ap-piled to have his disqualification lifted. Lawlor was disqualified for having failed to obtain a clearance from Preston when he Joined South Melbourne In 1028. Later Lawlor played for Essendon. The application was granted, and he was given a permit to transfer to Williams-

town.

T. Corrigan (Northcote) who was disquali-

fied for sit weeks for having struck G Rudolph (Coburg) in the grand final last year, was granted re-registration

An application from Camberwell that Its suspension of a player, H. Petre, should be endorsed by the committee was deferred for a week to obtain the reasons (or the suspen-

sion.
