TESTS FOR CLUBS

North-South Game Vital

By PERCY TAYLOR

Chief among a remarkably Inter-esting set of VFL games for tomor-row is that at North Melbourne, where the undefeated South Mel-bourne will provide the opposition. Both teams regard this match as their greatest test for the season. South have won, despite the absence or lack of form of several tried players, and North, with three wins on end, are practically at their top. Pace, dash, and system should char-acterise the game. Essendon, also, will have one of their hardest games at Richmond, which team is stronger than ever. Melbourne's game at Footscray, and Carlton's at Colling-wood are almost of equal interest and importance.

Lieutenant Audley Gillespie-Jones will play his first senior game for two years for Fitzroy on Saturday. Curcio, former captain, also on leave, trained twice this week, but, at his own request, will play with the seconds tomorrow. Linney, Crouch, and Price were unfit, and Bruce Calverley will resume next

week.

After nearly four hours of discus-sion, Lance Collins was granted a

clearance to

C ar11 o n by Coburg. H e has -been included, inC C a r 11 o n's team as a centre man. Way, avail-able after s u s p e n sion, has been given a new assignment -that of cen-tre half-back, where he played with the seconds.

There is a

possibility that Laurie Nash will not be able to play for South this week. He split the webbing of his hand last Saturday, and it is worrying

him.

Footscray have altered the cen-tre line completely. McLaren and Miller (wings) have recovered, and Thoms will play in the centre to allow Hickey to be second rover. Broadway will be full forward, and Olliver centre half-forward.

Mr W. Balfour, life-member of Collingwood, who has been "keeper of the door" for many years, has completed 50 years in office with the club.

Alan Williams, one of Collingwood's best players, will play his 100th game for the club tomorrow. Jack Bohan, the talented Hawthorn centre, will also reach 100 this week.

Judging by the number at training Richmond will have giants for some years to come. Last night - Roy Wright, aged 16 years, 6ft 2in, and 14èst, from North Kew, aroused in-terest. He is a full back, and the officials are greatly interested.
