HISTORICAL PAINTINGS!

FIRST GOVERNMENT HOUSE j

Valuable Centenary Gift j

Expert opinion is that the two watercolour paintings of the first Government residence in Victoria, which were recently presented to the State Government by Madame Elizabeth de Bernay, of Vaud, Switzerland, who is a granddaughter of the first Governor of Victoria, Governor La Trobe, are of extraordinary historical value. . '

After having inspected the paintings, which they received from the Premiers' office, the trustees of the Public Library have decided that they shall be placed in the historical collection of the library. Madame de Blonay's gift, which was made for the Centenary, the Premier (Sir Stanley Argyle) said yesterday, provided evidence that the publicity being given to Victoria by the preparations for the Centenary celebrations was far-reaching.
