HOBART TOWN.

SHIP NEWS. - The brigs Queen Charlotte and Haweis have arrived at Port Dalrymple; having sailed from Port Jackson, the first on the 8th, and the latter on

the 10th instant.

Sailed on Sunday last for Port Jackson, the ship Duchess of York, Captain Collins; having on board the Honorable the Judge of the Supreme Court, and Lady.Passengers, Mr. Gurner, Clerk to the Supreme Court; and several other persons who came from England by that

vessel.

Yesterday sailed for Port Dalrymple, the brig Guide, Captain Gordon.

Remain in the harbour, the ships Meway, Emerald, Caroline, Regalia, and Eliza; the brigs Governor Farquhar, and St. Antonio; and the schooner Victorine.

We have the satisfaction to perceive, that His Excellency the Governor in Chief's period of departure on his long expected visit to Van Diemen's Land was fixed; and that we may now expect the arrival of the Midas in a few days.

The Honorable the Judge of the Supreme Court, Barron Field, Esquire, embarked between six and seven on Sunday morning last, under a salute from Mulgrave Battery; and the ship Duchess of York immediately after proceeded down the

river.

By the Emerald which lately arrived from England, thirtyfive fine young ewes and rams of the pure Merino breed were imported to this Settlement.

His Majesty's colonial brig Prince Leopold, stationed vessel of this port, which has been sometime undergoing a thorough repair, was likely to be ready for sailing about the 25th inst,

from Sydney.

The ships Lord Sidmouth, Prince of Orange, and Dick, had arrived at Port Jackson with male convicts, when the Haweis

left.

The following extract of a letter, from our Correspondent at Sydney, dated the 11th March, may not be uninteresting to our Readers:- "There is a very ingenious mechanic, who is greatly employed in the wool here, coming to Hobart Town to manufacture cloth: he brings looms, &c.; and has constructed just now a Spinning Jenny."
