BROOKL1NE, Massachusetts, Monday (AAP).— Australian Rod Laver won the US professional tennis championship yesterday for the second time in three years at Longwood Cricket Club.

He and defending champion Ken Rosewall of Australia, thrilled a gallery of 4,200 for two hours and 22 minutes with a five-set match won by Laver, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, 8-10, 6-3.

With the victory went a first prize of $US3,600 ($A3,214).

Rosewall, who beat Laver in last year's final, got $US2,700 ($A2,410).

Laver also won the doubles with Bucholz as his partner, beating Rosewall and Australian Lew H o a d 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

That gave Laver a total of SUS4.170 ($A3,724) for

the tournament
