FOOTBALL CHAMPION.

TEN THOUSAND VOTES CAST. INTEREST KEENER EVERY DAY.

There was a steady flow of voting papers yeaterday for the football championship, and the total cast is now over 10,000

Busbridge went still further abead, and the enthusiasm for the Essendon Champion was shown by the comments made by some of his supporters. Picking these haphazard we find such remarks as, "It's a moral for big Buzzy," "Fairest and Best," "A dead cert.," "Ever always the first." With Bus- bridge were mostly associated M'Kenzie and Madden, of the association.

A favourite combination was Ricketts and Woods, South Melbourne supporters voting for their captain and their ex-defen- der. One coupon gave Ricketts, "Every time," and Woods, "On top at the end,

sure."

Johnson and Ricketts are having a great struggle for second place, only three sepa-rating them. H. Cordner, the University captain, again polled well, but the biggest run after the first four was made by J. Pearce, the Melbourne full-back, who got 109 votes, and moves up above Kelly. It was a quiet day for Lee (Collingwood) and most of the others, though Barwick found

some admirers.

There is a pathetic touch about one note accompanying a coupon in favour of Baquie The writer says:- "Why doesn't somebody vote for John Baquie (Carlton) and Topping (Carlton)? They are the two best little

players in the league?"

M'Kenzie is a long way ahead among the association clubs' players. He got more votes than anyone yesterday 424 to Bus-bridge's 359. Woods association with Ricketts helped him and he gained consider-ably on Madden, who is still in second place.

The latest returns give the following re-
